COVID-19 Response

UPDATE August 15, 2021:

While we had all hoped the worst of this pandemic crisis was behind us, as new variants are spreading and local cases rise again, the Session of First Presbyterian Church has again updated our response.

Pursuant to the latest guidelines from the CDC, which says that in areas of high spread all people, both vaccinated and unvaccinated, should mask at indoor public gatherings, we offer the following procedure:

If the risk level for Mercer County, WV is at a “very high” or “red” zone on Thursday, MASKS WILL BE REQUIRED the following Sunday in our church building. We will be taking the risk level from covidactnow.org each week, and we encourage anyone who is curious about data concerning virus cases and transmission rates (along with a lot of other useful information) to check this site regularly.

If the risk level is below the red zone, masks are still strongly recommended (particularly for the unvaccinated) but will not be required.

If the risk level rises to the “severe” dark red zone, the Session will make a decision about ceasing in-person activities and resuming online only events. We continue to monitor the situation closely.

Live-streamed worship will still be available on our Youtube channel and weekly questions for reflection and study will be posted on our website. If you would like help getting connected to the church online, please let us know!
